CARRETERA AL INFIERNO

Para mí los sábados noche son especiales, hace años dejé de bailar a lo Travolta en “Fiebre del sábado noche”, serán cosas de la edad, aunque  guardo buenos recuerdos de mis salidas nocturnas. Pero también es verdad que guardo buenísimos recuerdos de mis noches de “sábado cine” a mi edad temprana en la que estaba descubriendo géneros que me fascinaban. Actualmente continúo viviendo películas con emoción los fines de semana acompañado de comida grasienta.  No es un hábito muy saludable pero a mi edad me hace volver a emocionarme como antaño. Si tuviera que decidirme por algún título, en especial, de aquellas noches en las que estaba solo en casa pasando miedo, uno que me dejaba pegado a la pantalla, lo tengo claro, a pesar de haber visto muchas películas de terror maravillosas, reconozco que aquel sábado fue especial. “Carretera al infierno” me adentro en una forma de temor que no había sentido hasta entonces: el psicológico.

“Carretera al infierno” entra como una película de autoestopista asesino y llegas a pensar por la sencillez de la trama que tampoco ira mucho más allá de unas cuantas muertes y que será entretenida sin ánimo de nada más. La sinopsis, de lo más sencilla, un joven recoge con su Cadillac en una carretera de Tejas a John Ryder, éste le confiesa que es un asesino y que le va a  matar. Por supuesto que en dicha conversación los diálogos brillan en parte porque el espectador se siente dentro de ese coche sin poder escapar:

-“Ese tipo no habrá podido ir muy lejos”
-“¿ Y eso por qué ?
-” Porque le corté las dos piernas…y los brazos…y la cabeza… Y ahora voy a hacer lo mismo contigo.”

El acertado casting puso de villano al gran Rutger Hauer que desde el minuto uno te aterroriza solo con su presencia. Este actor además supo improvisar en algunas escenas sorprendiendo al resto del equipo, sobre todo a C. Thomas Howell ( que venía de triunfar con la comedia adolescente “Admiradora Secreta”), el actor reconoció que pasó miedo en la escena en la que Hauer le acerca el filo de un cuchillo al ojo. Es más, fuera del set todavía le tenía mucho respeto dada la intensidad con la que el villano vivía su papel.

La película se estrenó el 21 de febrero de 1986 siendo la ópera prima del director Robert Harmon y convirtiéndose en un film imprescindible para los amantes del cine de suspense y terror psicológico. Con el paso de los años ha envejecido muy bien siendo una de las películas preferidas del mismísimo Christopher Nolan ya que está llena de tensión y los temores acechan por todos lados.

Siguiendo con algunas de las aportaciones de Hauer al film hay que destacar las peligrosas maniobras en los coches durante la película sorprendiendo incluso a los verdaderos especialistas, llegándose a romper un diente en la escena final con la escopeta.

En 2007 tuvo un remake interpretado por Sean Bean, un buen actor pero una película innecesaria, y para rizar el rizo, se hizo una segunda parte en la que participaba Thomas Howell intentando relanzar su carrera pero lo único que se consiguió fue echar tierra a una historia pobre de argumento. Hubo escenas que no se rodaron como el asesinato de una familia entera, un ojo que aparece en una hamburguesa (este fue reemplazado por un dedo en unas patatas fritas) y hasta una escena de sexo. Es por eso que uno de los productores se quejaba afirmando que la película hubiera tenido más éxito si se hubieran rodado estas escenas.

Y es que “Carretera al infierno” es sobre todo el malo, pero un malo malísimo que intimida hasta al director, con ese ingrediente y aunque sigan contando historias de autoestopistas, nadie a día de hoy conseguirá eclipsar la interpretación que en su día nos trajo Hauer.

Por ello, si vas solo en el coche una noche de lluvia y alguien te pide que pares, si estás en Tejas no lo hagas ni de coña y si estás en cualquier otra parte tampoco. Creo que después de esta película y aunque suene horrible, subamos el volumen de la radio y aceleraremos sin mirar atrás.
